Could be you if you don’t feel like a dancer because you haven’t been dancing or never really had the opportunity to, but know that you want to and are one deep down
You if you feel like the tin man: maybe your joints are creaky and/or stiff, maybe you've had injuries that have held you back, maybe you're out of practice - but you don't want that to stop you from dancing again!
You have been dancing lately, but you're craving more consistency and community, and would like to explore a creative process with movement and expression
You're spending a lot of your creative energy on leading others in movement, and you feel a bit burnt out and would love to get re-inspired and connected, and have a space to explore your own expression
Each class will include a warm-up followed by choreography development. You can expect a combo of learning group dance segments, working in pairs and/or small groups, and generating short sections of movement through a collaborative guided improv process.
Theme: “I am a dancer!” No matter how old you are, how long it’s been since you regularly danced, you can dance again and you can embrace that inner dancer and let them shine.
NOTE: Some dance experience is recommended, as it will move at an intermediate pace, made especially for rusty non-beginners.
(If you consider yourself more of a beginner to dance, please inquire about whether or not this would be a good fit for you! We also recommend trying out the preview class first so that you can get a feel for the pacing and style and if it will work for you.)
Michelle Maso (she/her) is an original Dance Again member and choreographer.
She identifies as a dancer, educator, wife, mother and many other things. She studied Dance at Rutgers University and Special Education at Long Island University. Michelle is a full time Dance Educator with the NYC Department of Education, where she teaches 3K and Pre-K Creative Movement.
In 2015, at the beginning of Jess Grippo’s You Can Dance Again movement, Michelle rediscovered her dancer self and has been dancing and creating ever since. She enjoys sharing her passion for dance and helping her students and her children, Amelia and Oscar, develop body awareness and comfort, while encouraging their creative expression

The 10-week series is longer (obvi ;) which allows for a deeper creative experience, more collaboration, and more community building.
Our 4-week series typically teach a specific piece of choreography that the main facilitator creates. In the 10-week, the facilitator is guiding a process where each dancer can contribute to combine different styles and different "dance voices." There will be some elements of learning choreography, and some elements of creating together. We encourage a mix of styles to truly create something unique!
No problem! With a longer series, we expect everyone to have certain weeks where they aren't able to make it live.
We'll be recording key segments, so you can always catch up virtually! We design our class series in this way to make it more accessible for everyone, and to allow you more flexibility if you are traveling, get sick, or if anything comes up.
We do have other options! We offer 4-week series each month in a variety of styles. Check the schedule to see what's coming up!
AND if you are intrigued by this type of series but just feel hesitant to commit right away, you are welcomed to start with the first preview class on March 2nd.
Michelle Maso will be the main facilitator who has been dancing and choreographing with us since 2015.

Great! This is THE place to break back in. Most of our members are in a similar boat or have recently started dancing again or for the first time, so rest assured that the people around you GET IT and there is no judgment whatsoever. Classes are paced in a way that you can really adapt it to your level and current ability.
We encourage total beginners to try the preview class first to determine if it's right for you, since everyone is different. Some dance experience is recommended, as it will move at an intermediate pace, made especially for rusty non-beginners.
If you consider yourself more of a beginner to dance, please inquire about whether or not this would be a good fit for you!
For this series, Michelle will be using an upbeat indie-rock song "Dancer" by IDLES, LCD Soundsystem
If after the first class you truly feel like it's not aligned for you, we'll refund you the remainder of the series cost and cancel your participation. There are no refunds after the second class session begins.
When we can, we offer partial scholarships. We price our classes in our best efforts to be sustainable for our small business, while also being as affordable as possible for our students. If cost is prohibitive but you are feeling extremely connected to our mission and would love to take part, please reach out to jess@jessgrippo.com and we can let you know if there are still scholarship spots available.
Wear clothes you can comfortably move in - barefoot or socks is recommended, but dance shoes are also ok! It's not a fashion show, so don't stress over what to wear ;) Most people wear sweatpants or leggings and a t-shirt.
We know it can be scary to step into a new dance experience and we'’ve tried our best to be as descriptive as possible so that you can determine if it's your vibe. That being said, it’s still totally normal to be nervous or to have questions!
We welcome you to connect with our online community to talk through the nerves and/or reach out to our team at jess@jessgrippo.com. Jess is available for questions and calls.
Nicole Kingston
After college, I moved to a small town with very few dance opportunities for adults, and for four years I stopped dancing for the first time in my life. I always said that if I realized my dream of moving to NYC, a place rich with dance opportunities for anyone and everyone, I would start dancing again.
I moved to NYC in November 2014, but I didn't start dancing. I felt out of practice and intimidated to return to a traditional studio setting, and I realized my location was not the only thing holding me back. Then, a former dance teacher and now dear friend told me about Dance Again. A day later I spoke with Jess and decided to enroll. Within a week, I was dancing again, and a few weeks later I was performing for the first time in ten years.
If something is holding you back from dancing again or you've been hoping for an opportunity to dance again free from comparison or competition, I highly recommend Dance Again.
