about our group dance class series

We structure our classes in a series format to provide a space where you can:

  • Develop consistency and accountability to show up each week (because we all know drop-in classes are easy to skip!)
  • Feel a sense of community and camaraderie as you learn and grow together with your fellow classmates
  • Reduce the fear factor through a sequential process that builds week to week, where you can know what to expect

class samples

Contemporary-ish

We rotate teachers and styles, but all of our classes combine a beginner/intermediate level warm up with a little bit of guided improv, and a lot of simple, expressive choreography taught in segments so that you can learn it easily and have lots of time to practice!

Hip-Hop

Yxia teaches in a way that breaks things down easily with lots of repetition so that you can really feel good learning the moves!

Ballet Breakdown / Rusty Ballet

Hear from past ballet students and get a feel for class. We'll use a combo of classical and contemporary music. While it helps to have a bit of prior experience when you take Rusty Ballet, we offer an online course called Ballet Breakdown for total beginners who want to learn the basics.

words from students

I really appreciated the “come as you are” vibe of the class. I didn’t feel pressure to show up in a particular way or with any particular experience/ knowledge.

It made me feel courageous, and at the end of each class more present and alive than when I had been when I walked in.

frequently asked questions

Please reach us at jess@jessgrippo.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Great! This is THE place to break back in. Most of our members are in a similar boat or have recently started dancing again or for the first time, so rest assured that the people around you GET IT and there is no judgment whatsoever. Classes are paced in a way that you can really adapt it to your level and current ability.

Music types vary depending on the teacher. Playlists range from Indie rock and dance music, to pop, to instrumental. Here’s a sample playlist!

We don’t offer refunds, but classes are recorded on Zoom! If you miss, you’ll receive the recording within 48 hours of the class.

We price our classes in our best efforts to be sustainable for our small business, while also affordable for our students. Current rates are on average $75 for a 4-week series. If cost is prohibitive but you are feeling extremely connected to our mission and would love to take part, please reach out to jess@jessgrippo.com and we can let you know if there are still scholarship spots available.

Yes! We are following state mandated requirements.  Masks are currently optional but we will stay in tune with updates and make adjustments if necessary. Studio is cleaned and disinfected after each use to keep us fresh and safe!

Wear clothes you can comfortably move in - It's not a fashion show, so don't stress over what to wear ;) Most people wear sweatpants or leggings and a t-shirt.

As for shoes/feet:

Contemporary-ish - barefoot or socks is recommended, but dance shoes are also ok!

Rusty Ballet - socks or ballet slippers are recommended.

Hip-Hop - sneakers are recommended.

Other classes - check the description!

We’ve tried our best to be as descriptive as possible and to give examples to help ease the fear of the unknown and allow you to determine if it would be a good fit. If you didn't already claim it, you can get a few sample classes on video here. That being said, it’s still totally normal to be nervous or to have questions!

We welcome you to email Jess at jess@jessgrippo.com or connect with our online community first to talk through the nerves and reach out to our team. We are also working on more resources to support you every step of the way.

It’s not about steps or perfection it’s about YOU and whatever you bring to your dance. Bring your joy, your pain, your desire to be seen, your deepest fears, or simply your love of dance and you will be welcomed. We’re all just a bunch of ‘dance orphans’ who were looking for a home.
