As the founder and director of Dance Again, I have been running our classes and programs consistently since 2015. I'm also a TEDx speaker, the author of Dance With This Book, a creative coach, copywriter, former holistic health coach, and dancer/performing artist. (shout out to my fellow multi-passionate creatives!)
The path of getting here has had MANY transitions and transformations along the way. Here are the cliffnotes:
I was a holistic health coach with a thriving practice and thought that was my calling, until something in my soul told me otherwise. What started out as a creative hobby - making homemade dance videos alone in my room - has grown into a career and a community over the last 10+ years. From starting tiny workshops in a Brooklyn studio to speaking on a TEDx stage to performing in front of hundreds to seeing my homemade dance video screened at Lincoln Center, I’ve been on a mission to make dance more accessible, with an emphasis on creativity and self-expression.
I’ve also been coaching since 2007 in the fields of women’s health, creativity, copywriting, and business. Over that time I've supported 85+ entrepreneurs and businesses on their content, marketing strategy, and messaging, as well as 60+ individuals into successful creative paths.
My Dance Again programs and videos have helped hundreds of people in NYC and beyond to reclaim their sense of self through dance, feel at home in their bodies, and revive their creative expression.
I’m currently navigating quite possibly the biggest transition ever in my life - becoming a mom. As I learn about life with this new human, I feel called to move through it in the best way I know how: while dancing and creating. Let’s be honest, there’s nothing like an in-person dance experience! And this is not meant to replace it, but to supplement it. Also - What I’ve heard from so many people over the years is that it takes them SO LONG to get up the courage to walk into that dance studio. Or to find a dance class that they want to take and can fit into their schedule.
The reason I decided to start offering my program online is because I saw the need for something easy to access that can catalyze more dancing in whatever ways you want to. By getting started with an online program, you’re taking the pressure off yourself to have to even leave your house. You’re taking the first step. You’re connecting to other people all over the world just like you, and you’re inspiring each other to get moving.
Some people who go through this program are happy keeping a personal dance practice that they do at home. Others go on to find or create local in-person dance experiences. It’s really up to you, and the program is going to guide you to create exactly what you want.
I don’t either. But I know that if I don’t make the time to dance and connect to myself, I’ll be a hot mess. And being a hot mess is only cute for so long. Etching out 30 minutes to an hour each week to do something for yourself will be a gamechanger.
If you can stand up, extend your arms, and spin around in a circle without hitting anything, you have enough space to do this program. Kiddos, babies, and pets are welcome to join you, too!
That’s totally fine! Dance “again” can also mean dancing repeatedly, whether or not you have danced a lot in your past. Having little to no dance experience can actually be helpful, because you have less preconceived notions of what your body “should” be doing and you can tap into its free expression to release stress and open your creative energy. All you need is a desire to have fun, explore your inner world, feel free and empowered, and dance it out.
This is also for you! The benefit of an online format is that you don’t have to worry about mirrors or other people watching you - it creates a space where you can tap into your movement from the inside out. People who go through our programs build up confidence and get back their flexibility and movement enough to feel ready to take even more classes and get back into the studio if and when they desire.
You don’t have to! Even if you do 20% of what’s offered, it will benefit you and be worth it. People say that the community aspect creates motivation and a feeling of accomplishment, even when they can’t make it live to classes. And anything we lead live will be recorded and available to you shortly after so that you can build it into a routine that works for you.
How could it not?! But I totally understand the question ;) Sometimes it’s hard to imagine how something as simple as dancing could have a big effect on other areas of your life.
What I’ll say first is that this program is guiding you back into dance, but it’s also guiding you back to YOU. Dance (in the way I teach it and use it) has a way of reconnecting us to the essence of who we are, to release stuck emotions and energy, and to express things that have been wanting to be expressed.
Plus, on a purely scientific level, I can point out the ways in which dance opens up neural pathways in our brains that can make us think more creatively and get out of the patterns of thought that have been keeping us stuck.
When you have a regular dance practice that works for you, you’re able to have more energy, think clearly and more openly, and approach your relationships and work with confidence.
Get your groove back in your body and your life through a process of inner exploration, healing, and expression - mirrors and judgment NOT included! I’ll help you move past the hidden (and not so hidden) blocks that are keeping you from accessing your true self and dancing in the current state of your body and your life so that you can feel confident, get moving, and find your people.
